I recently got my hands on a wrecked 2003 Jetta TDI Wagon. The impact was in the rear right quart panel. I managed to get most of it rebuilt/replaced but when it comes to the bumper cover, I ran into a pickle... the bumper is cracked a bit, but fully redeemable, yet the right bumper guide bracket is shattered. I don't want buy a new bumper cover and then have to paint it, if this one will work just fine. I looked everywhere online and can't even find a mention of it.

I can find the bracket that gets bolted to the body (see attached link below) but I can't find the bumper piece that slides into that bracket. The bracket itself has "Teil Nr. 1J9 807 377" on it, but it gives me a dead end. It's the piece that is welded onto the bumper cover and locks onto the bumper guide bracket.

Please be aware MKIV wagon bumpers are not all the same size. There's a shorty bumper and a long bumper. There is also a different crash bar behind the different size bumpers as well.

Is the broken bumper guide bracket the bumper side or the quarter panel side?

It's on the bumper side. How do I know if I have the short or long version of the bumper? I was under the impression that the golf's had the shorter bumpers....

If the part is on the bumper side, does it look to be removable? Or is it glued/plastic welded?
You might want to see if the guide from a non-wagon bumper is the same.

I'm pretty sure the shorter bumper (cover) was on the 2001/2002, but there's (always) some debate on if all 2003 had the bigger/longer bumper.
And you can never be sure the bumper on your car is the original 1, unless you bought the car new.

After wasting weeks looking, i was not able to locate the bracket. The only option is to pay over $500 for a used bumper cover (car only cost me $385 off auction). So I just made it work as-is. I ended up using a body sealant as glue to attach the bumper lip to the guide bracket, and the wheel liner helps keep things together. It's not perfect but it works.... so far.
